Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro has signed a decree blocking access to social network X for 10 days amid a clampdown on dissent over his disputed re-election.
Maduro, a self-described revolutionary socialist, was declared the winner of the July 28 presidential election, though the National Electoral Council, controlled by his allies, has not published a detailed breakdown of the results.
The opposition said its candidate was the real winner, and published thousands of voting tally receipts as evidence. The US congratulated opposition candidate Edmundo González for winning the most votes.
Maduro has accused X owner Elon Musk of promoting a “coup attempt” in Venezuela, as he has moved to quash any challenges to his victory.
